Hey Bill -- your racism is showing!

When Don Imus went down for his nappy-headed ho's comment, it sparked a national conversation on racism in the media. Immediately, a few things were apparent: Imus' crack was very much uncool, though it seems he wasn't consciously being racist -- more of a nugget of ignorance sewn into the man's character and subconscious. True, his contract specified that he was to be offensive. But when he went after a black women's basketball team for fun and profit, the black community responded, quickly killing his fun, and the network's profits.

My opinion is that the whole fandango was foolish, and it only served to distract the media from what's really going on: mllions of people dying in Iraq. (Though, there is some amount of poetic justice in how Imus got taken down. Payback's a nappy-headed bitch.)

But if you thought tha Don's crack was lame, just give a listen to Faux Noise's Bill O'Reilly in this audio clip! For you bandwidth impared folks, here's a transcript ...

"I think black Americans are starting to think more and more for
themselves."

"And we went to Sylvia’s, a very famous restaurant in Harlem. I had a great time, and all the people up there are tremendously respectful."

"And I couldn’t get over the fact that there was no difference between Sylvia’s restaurant and any other restaurant in New York City. I mean, it was exactly the same, even though it’s run by blacks, primarily black patronship."

"There wasn’t one person in Sylvia’s who was screaming, 'M-Fer, I want more iced tea.'”

"You know, I mean, everybody was — it was like going into an Italian restaurant in an all-white suburb inthe sense of people were sitting there, and they were ordering and having fun. And there wasn’t any kind of craziness at all."

So, who is the "bigger" racist? Don Imus or Bill O'Reilly? Or does it even matter? I'm for turning off the televised news entirely, but that's just me ...

Congressman Poe (hearts) the Ku Klux Klan

Wow!

Congressman Ted Poe of Texas' second district - based out of Beaumont - quoted the first Grand Wizard of the Ku Klux Klan on the floor of the House of Representatives yesterday.

He quoted him as justification or example for why he thinks Congress should dump a few extra hundred BILLION dollars on Iraq's ongoing "liberation". He claims that if the war is not funded, we'll somehow forget about all those troops we've got in Iraq and just let them die without bringing them home ... Which is disingenuous, to say the least.

Congressman Poe attributed the quote to a man he simply qualified as Confederate General Nathan Bedford Forrest. His exact words were ...
"Nathan Bedford Forrest, a successful Confederate general, said it best about winning and victory and the means to do so. He said, 'Git thar fustest with the mostest.'"
Nathan Bedford Forrest founded America's oldest terrorist organization, the Ku Klux Klan, as a means to murder as many slaves as possible.

And pardon me for asking, but, how are you going to call ANY confederate general "successful"? Last I checked, the Union won the Civil War.

Better still, it was a misquote. Forrest actually said "to git thar fust with the most men."

Not only does Congressman Poe quote one of the Godfathers of American Racism on the floor of our House, he does so incorrectly.

ThinkProgress has the video.

What say ye now of the inherent racism in much of the South's conservative ideology? If we've learned anything since Imus got stomped into the ground by free market forces, the legions of racial tolerance have finally gotten there "fustest with the mostest".

Or should I say, "[got] thar fust with the most dollars"?

Limbaugh: Obama should renounce race

I think Rush was hitting the Oxy a little hard yesterday. This one hardly even requires an explanation.

Just listen to what this racist prick said.

Speaking about Senator Barack Obama's race, Rush said ...
"If it’s not something you want to be, if you didn't decide it, renounce it, become white!"
[...]
"If you don't like it, you can switch. Well, that's the way I see it. He's got 50-50 in there. Say, 'No, I'm white.'"
Wow. Just ... Wow.

They should fire Rush and give his job to whoever the Grand Pooh-Bah of the KKK is. Maybe the loyal followers wouldn't notice the change.

O'Reilly is "scared of" black people

Wow. I never thought O'Reilly would actually do an entire show about how racist he is ... But he did!

I am so not kidding on this one.

What's next?

George Bush telling the truth? Dick Cheney engaging in diplomacy? Exxon admitting that global warming is real and caused by fossil fuels?
