Last week, President Bush met with James Dobson, leader of
Focus on the Family, and a dozen other Christian Reich leaders from around the country, in OUR White House, to get their support for attacking another country that is currently at peace.
That's right:
the Fear is back again. Said Dobson after the meeting ...
I heard about this danger [from Iran] not only at the White House but from other pro-family leaders that I met during that week in Washington. Many people in a position to know are talking about the possibility of losing a city to nuclear or biological or chemical attack. And if we can lose one we can lose ten.
If we can lose ten we can lose a hundred. Especially if North Korea and Russia and China pile on.
Dobson continues,
comparing Iran's current leader to Adolph Hitler ... When in all truth, the man Dobson has chosen to side with has
far more innocent blood on his hands.
The world looked at Hitler and just didn't believe him and tried to appease him the way we're hearing in Washington today. You know, the President seems to me does understand this, as I told you from that meeting I had with him the other day, but even there it feels like somebody ought to be standing up and saying, ‘We are being threatened and we are going to meet this with force -- whatever's necessary.’
Dobson claims that Iran will nuke America and Israel, and somehow launch a worldwide empire. The implication is that we should
nuke Iran before they're able to do anything wrong. And if you're a follower of Dobson, you know that everything he says comes from the lips of the Creator; Jesus Christ himself. Just who are you to go against Jesus?
Keep in mind we are discussing the most pro-west nation in the middle east.
Keep in mind that Iran is one of the most vibrant democracies in that portion of the world,
where dissent thrives, and
revolution is just as close at hand (or closer)
as it is here.
Keep in mind that we're talking about a country that has not attacked us, is at peace with its neighbors, and not directly threatening anyone.
Keep in mind that
Bush is a power-hungry liar, and the International Atomic Energy Agency has long since
called him on it.
Keep in mind that Hitler's Reich was
launched after
attacking peaceful nations that had done
nothing to the German people.
Not calling anyone a 'Hitler' ... That would be a slight to the rancid cur. If Bush is akin to any prior fascist dictator, it is
Hirohito, with a pinch of Mussolini's
corporatism for good measure. I disdain the Hitler comparison in all its forms.
However, keep in mind that Hitler too proclaimed himself to be a Christian.
My feelings as a Christian points me to my Lord and Savior as a fighter. It points me to the man who once in loneliness, surrounded by a few followers, recognized these Jews [or Iranians?]* for what they were and summoned men to fight against them and who, God's truth! was greatest not as a sufferer but as a fighter.
In boundless love as a Christian and as a man I read through the passage which tells us how the Lord at last rose in His might and seized the scourge to drive out of the Temple the brood of vipers and adders. How terrific was His fight for the world against the Jewish [or Iranian?]* poison. To-day, after two thousand years, with deepest emotion I recognize more profoundly than ever before the fact that it was for this that He had to shed His blood upon the Cross. [Jesus died so we could murder millions of people?]*
As a Christian I have no duty to allow myself to be cheated, but I have the duty to be a fighter for truth and justice ... And if there is anything which could demonstrate that we are acting rightly it is the distress that daily grows. For as a Christian I have also a duty to my own people.
