Not Guilty -- Govt. loses terrorism finance case

Richardson, Texas-based Holy Land Foundation, shut down by Bush in 2001 for allegedly providing financial support to Hamas, won a major victory today. In the U.S. Government vs. the Holy Land Foundation, a mistrial was declared, and all but one defendant has been acquitted of all but one count.

The Morning News has more.

What the DMN won't tell you is the true significance of this trial. Had the government won, it could have meant the end of humanitarian aid to Palestine from the United States. When HLF gave charity to organizations that the state of Israel had approved as legitimate, only to get popped, that could have sealed off the remaining support for a people who literally have nothing.

But that didn't happen today.

Govt. plans "biggest" terror drill, ever.

On Sept. 11, 2001, FAA employees could not track the hijacked planes because they did not know which errant radar blips they were -- an exercise, Operation Northern Vigilance, simulated multiple hijackings. Officially, it was a 'test' of our readiness. But, we all know what really happened.

A similar test was going on in London the day of the bus bombs. Many of the paranoid types, for good reason, get extremely hyper whenever these big terror drills are announced. And today, CBS News has revealed the U.S. Govt. is planning its biggest terror drill yet.

Next week, three nuclear detonations will be simulated across the United States at critical "transportation arteries" -- Portland, Oregon, Phoenix, Arizona and Guam. They're calling the operation "TOPOFF".

Be aware.

Bush authorizes more money for concentration camps

Bush just granted himself the authority to seize control over the entire federal government, essentially making Congress no longer exist, so long as there's some excuse for him to declare a "national emergency".

More here.

Be vigilant, my brothers. The final cornerstone of dictatorship has been laid.

After all, we've lost our Bill of Rights.

Kamikaze?

Apparently, the Brits are asking their flyboys if they'd be willing to fly suicide missions for the War on Terror.

Scary stuff, I kid you not.

You and I are Josephe Padilla. (Or could be, anyway.)

What happened to the Joseph Padilla interrogation tape?

That's what human rights organizations are wondering today, as a Pentagon representative tells America (but mostly just U.S. Judge Marcia Cooke in Miami) that it has gone missing.
"This is the kind of thing you hear when you’re litigating cases in Egypt or Morocco or Karachi,” said John Sifton, a lawyer with Human Rights Watch, one of a number of groups that has criticized the U.S. government’s treatment of Padilla. “It is simply not credible that they would have lost this tape. The administration has shown repeatedly they are more interested in covering up abuses than getting to the bottom of whether people were abused."
Interestingly, Mr. Padilla has just been declared competent to stand trial. Some experts have diagnosed him as suffering Stockholm's syndrome. Perhaps there's some clues as to why on this missing tape?

Or is 'clues' is the wrong word?

US money going to Al-Qaeda ... Again?

We all know that back in the 80's, Al-Qaeda was a CIA front in Afghanistan, trained and financed to fight the Soviets in a proxy-war. Osama bin-Laden was their selected leader, appointed by the Reagan Administration, back when they just loooooved America for giving them all their weapons.

But would you be shocked to learn that today, still, our money, our tax dollars, are landing in their pockets? Investigative Reporter Seymore Hersh with The New Yorker Magazine has a new story out claiming exactly that is happening, and much, much more.

Sadly, nothing shocks me anymore.
